Our history, vision, tradition and passion
Doty Nurseries is located just north of Elburn, IL. The nursery, known as PP&O Nursery, was originally planted in 1990 by Peter Orum and Paul Pedersen. For the next 25 years, great care was taken to grow quality trees to serve the Chicagoland landscape market.
In 2013, Ryan Doty purchased the farm with the intention of building on the foundation established by Peter and Paul. With the help of his father and grower, Ken Doty, along with other great employees, Doty Nurseries continues to be a reliable and top quality wholesale supplier.
In 2021, Doty Nurseries added a second growing location in Huntley, IL. This growing location was originally started in the early 1990's by Greg Oltman of Gro Horticultural. Through this addition to our growing acreage we are excited to be able to offer a greater product selection and continue to build on what Greg and his team established here.
Nursery management and sustainable practices
Doty Nurseries practices successful integrated Pest Management resulting in limited use of pesticides. Mechanical cultivation and hand hoeing for weed control make it possible for our nurseries to minimize the use of herbicides. Soil conservation techniques are also used, such as winter cover crops and grass-covered roadways and waterways.
Our Elburn farm is also designed with windbreaks to minimize wind damage and help maintain proper plant structure.
During their growth cycle, our trees undergo a custom root pruning process that not only significantly lowers transplant shock loss, but allows the tree to develop a dense and healthier root system.
The combination of these practices results in few pest problems and stronger, more healthy plants for your landscapes!
We are strong supporters of the Chicagoland Grows program, because they offer plants that will reliably work in this area. We are also proud members of the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois, the Illinois Green Industry Association and the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association.
